No Shame Script Compilations
|
No Shame Theatre was first established in 1986 in the back of a pickup truck in Iowa City by playwrights Todd Ristau, Stan Ruth, and Jeff Goode. Since those rough and humble beginnings No Shame has become recognized as an important vehicle for experimentation and new writing for performance. No Shame Theatre continues at Iowa, and a network of No Shame franchises is spreading with venues across America from New York to Los Angeles and from Fairbanks to Miami.
Anyone can participate in No Shame, providing they show up at the door with an original 3-5 minute piece which is self contained and doesn’t break any laws. Some writers come once, other writers emerge as regular participants, amassing an impressive body of work. This series of collections will showcase those No Shame workhorses. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed watching... |

After the tragic events of Sept. 11th, No Shames around the country saw their stage become a kind of "living editorial page" where writers and performers brought pieces dealing with the attacks and the War on Terror. No Shame became a vehicle for catharsis and a springboard for deeper discussion where people could deal with the national grief, collective rage, and gnawing fear. Many of those scripts have been collected here in the first of a two-volume set. We're confident you'll find these pieces as compelling and unique as the venue which created them.

Various
Primarily scenes and monologues
Performances $40/per when performed as full length, $20 as a one-act, or $5/per individual piece, scripts $9.99 each
The second in the two-volume set, the pieces in this collection deal exclusively with the invasion of Iraq and the Second Gulf War. Pieces span the gamut of support and opposition to the military action, and because pieces date from before the war through its eventual conclusion, some pieces may seem more controversial when taken out of the context of their original performance dates.
This amazing compilation represents a combined effort of No Shames around the country to examine and express opinions on the Showdown with Saddam in a kind of "living editorial page" where any aspect of the international crisis is fair game for discussion.
